It was a promotional figure for VB beer and the 2005/2006 cricket series , programmed to make random comments solely on match days ( e.g. "When are we going to the pub?" )

Later in the year , after months of silence , dolls all over Australia suddenly began "talking" again , due to the battery unexpectedly

reactivating "Boony"

The dolls were inspired by Aussie cricketer David Boon ,

famed for having consumed 52 cans of beer on a 24 hour flight to London -
